German artist working in Cologn, Thomas Fiebig paints counteracting the decent signals of our daily world. The sees beeing disorganized, he distancies us from the surrounded mass-media where thoughts, matters and intentions become chaotic.
Destruction as a constructive principle. This could be the best way to describe Thomas Fiebig’s work. Meticulously drawn scribbles and over paintings, messages in large letters which, in the painting, are reduced to absurdity, or meaningful infant characters: contents and aesthetical design are constantly counteracted.
Even the development of the paintings contrasts with the apparent spontaneous chaos on the canvas. Everything is worked out in detail on the computer and is then reproduced on the canvas in a long process. This creates distance and perfection of the transposition.
The destruction process acts thereby as a means for relativisation and fragmentation and ultimately, also always as a condition for something new. Fiebig’s paintings are the search for a balance of extremes and for harmony based on paradox.
