"We need to raise awareness among all those around us. The planet belongs to everyone, and it doesn't take much to improve the situation. Art is an excellent way of spreading this message. Now it's time to take action!".
The second edition of "Urban Painting Around the World", a live urban art performance, took place on the port of Monaco from July 18 to 21. Over three days, ten urban artists from ten different countries expressed their artistic and graphic talents around the theme "Une planète à croquer ?" Alberto Colman, founder of the event, wanted to combine art and the environment: "We need to raise awareness among all those around us. The planet belongs to everyone, and it doesn't take much to improve the situation. Art is an excellent way of spreading this message. Now it's time to take action!".
The 2018 edition brought together some of the biggest names in international urban art, such as New York artist Daze (one of the first to tag New York's subways with Crash) invited by artistic director Willem Speerstra, English artist Remi Rough, Swedish artist Huge, Dutch artist Niels Shoe Meullmann, French artists Julien Colombier and Kashink, German MadC, Monegasque artists Beli and Mr One Teas and Swiss artist Xavier Magaldi.
The graffiti artists seem to have been very inspired by the theme, given the magnificent ephemeral frescoes they were able to create. New York artist Daze takes us into the Mediterranean, which suffers from numerous environmental pressures, Xavier Magaldi depicts endangered glaciers, Mr One Teas denounces the vices of consumerism, Swedish artist Huge has created a gorilla and a Brazilian frog, two endangered species, and others have chosen to deal with the threats to the coral reefs of Béli, etc. Each artist has interpreted the theme in his or her own way, with great talent.
