"At the heart of every creation is the letter. No matter how many colors, how stylized, how fanciful, it's in the writing of our names that it all began. This is the genesis of what has become a world language.
A living legend of 80's old school graffiti, Crash is one of the major protagonists of the New York post-graffiti scene. With "Genesis", Crash takes us back to the very essence of graffiti: the alphabet. Playing with letters like a writer playing with words, Crash explores the source code of his work. In each canvas, he recounts the birth of the graffiti movement: "At the heart of every creation is the letter. No matter how many colors, how stylized, how fanciful, it's in the writing of our names that it all began. This is the genesis of what has become a world language."
Like twenty six fragments of a monumental work that our imagination finishes painting, Crash invites us into the energy of an overflowing, generous, punchy or heartfelt creation, sprinkled with references to his peers but also to his own career. It's a self-portrait that continues to spell out his urgency to live, his insatiable desire to write and create.
