Speerstra Gallery Switzerland presents Serval "Punchlines"

3 February - 28 March 2011

For Serval, working on lines and their style defines his vision of graffiti. Creating works that strike your mind at first sight.

After having prepared some book projects this autumn and traveled through Europe to paint, Serval presents "Punchlines". "Just like a memorable line you read on a wall will stay stuck in your mind, "Punchlines" is about the motions and the trace or impression they leave on you." For Serval, working on lines and their style defines his vision of graffiti. Creating works that strike your mind at first sight.
Serval is inspired by old school graffiti’s tradition as well as classical American illustration. His very dynamic work is essentially painted with spray cans. It’s a delicate balance between the energy of his letters, their textures and the line’s purity. The exhibition is about energy and vigor; giving life to the letters thanks to a subtle balance between harmony and tension between solid lines and curves. Serval deepens his latest reflections to add a new dimension to his work on walls. Serval just took part in the jam Just Writing My Name in Naples and of at the Circle Kings jam in Lausanne. He is now working with illustrator JP Kalonji, tattoo artist Christian N’Guyen and participating in Dave "Chino" Villorente’s next piecebook.
