Speerstra Gallery Switzerland presents Alonso Alcalde "100’000 Miles - The Art of Patiperro"

16 March - 22 June 2024

The artist shares his adoration for trains, exploring every detail: models, materials, finishes. He also conveys the emotions associated with memories that are only as important as the sensation they leave us with a colour, a smell, a light, a sound. It is in the implicit that Alonso finds the quintessence of his expression. What is not said, what is not shown, will be revealed to curious viewers of this extraordinary journey.

! The gallery is closed from Thursday May 9 to Monday May 13 !

Speerstra Gallery Switzerland is pleased to present Alonso Alcalde’s first solo exhibition “100’000 Miles - The Art of Patiperro”. On this occasion, the Chilean artist will present a series of works inspired by his graffiti practices and extensive travels.

Born in Santiago de Chile in 1980, Alonso has a passion for art, exploring various disciplines such as writing, design, photography and graffiti. His practices and desire for self-expression led him to emigrate to Europe, where he found material to fuel his ambitions. Barcelona became the starting point for his artistic peregrinations.

Thanks to this change of life and his perseverance in his creative work, he travels the world in search of singular experiences. His distinctive, colourful style as a writer instinctively leads him to paint trains clandestinely whether passenger, underground or in the open air.

This illegal and fleeting activity, the very essence of graffiti, is immortalised through his lens and writings, bearing witness to moments of life charged with adrenaline and creativity. These snapshots are integrated into his works: he cuts up his photographs, adding expressive touches of paint, collages and text; his creative process evolves into post-graffiti. Alonso constructs a new snapshot of his experience, seeking to leave his signature while reinventing himself. It’s a way for him to deconstruct in order to better reconstruct, to transcend his passion for graffiti and continue to write his history.
