Speerstra Gallery Switzerland presents STOHEAD "GOT TO MOVE"

7 September - 5 October 2024

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of our capacity to move, both physically and intellectually. It expresses a profound desire to stay alive, to feel the constant movement that surrounds us.

Following the success of “THE MESSAGE” at the Speerstra Gallery in Paris in June 2023, Stohead presents “GOT TO MOVE” at the Swiss gallery. This exhibition includes a selection of the works presented in Paris, continuing the idea of a continuous evolution, a movement of both works and ideas. These creations link the two exhibitions, completing the concept of “THE MESSAGE : GOT TO MOVE”.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of our capacity to move, both physically and intellectually. It expresses a profound desire to stay alive, to feel the constant movement that surrounds us. Just as clocks harmonise when they are in the same room, the movement of one leads to that of the others. Stohead contrasts two tendencies of state of mind: to withdraw and isolate oneself, or to pursue an active quest for discovery, shifting the boundaries of our daily lives, bodies and minds. The artist thus expresses the need to constantly conquer new horizons and maintain an open mind, challenged by the ambient climate to which each of us is exposed according to his or her sensitivity. Stohead's reflections on the fundamental ideas of freedom and the place of each individual in our societies are recurring themes that he likes to tackle artistically. He explores how two opposing ideas can merge to generate creative potential.

For this exhibition, Stohead presents some fifteen works on canvas and a new series of six works on cardboard, enriched by new graphic research stemming from his reflections on intellect-generating movements. In doing so, he has taken up the challenge of technical innovation, transforming each discovery into a real apprenticeship.
